What is somatic healing?

Somatic healing is a body-centered therapeutic approach that works with the nervous system to help you release stored trauma, tension, and emotional patterns. You can’t think your way out of patterning that is stored in the body.

This is why so many sensitive people struggle to recover with talk therapy alone.

Rather than spend the rest of your life just trying harder, somatic therapies can help your body shift out of survival mode and restore a sense of safety and relational ease. You receive attuned, compassionate, guided support to work with muscle tension patterning and emotional experience in the body. Healing doesn’t have to be so hard when we help your brain and nervous system shift out of survival with sequenced body-based movement patterns and emotional support.

What is Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy ?

Imagine receiving touch with the power to restore your innate sense of wellbeing. Biodynamic Craniosacral therapy (BCST) is a gentle hands-on technique that utilizes specific hand placements and techniques that allow your body to self-correct, ease tension, calm the nervous system, and release deep trauma. Gentle touch allows the body to rebalance its own rhythms and the connections and fluidity that facilitates communication throughout the cerebral-spinal system, while tissues and bones can also subtly shift.

An example of this is through cranial touch, your body lets go of gripping patterns in the diaphragm so you discover a new level of relaxation, recover from dissociative patterns and no longer struggle to hold your breath.

This therapy is amazing!! It is well suited for people who feel easily overstimulated, feel emotionally or physically overwhelmed, and haven’t resolved symptoms of trauma, injury or illness with other modalities. It is rare in this world to receive truly attuned touch.

I’ve done so much work. Why should I try somatic therapies ?

I asked myself the same question before somatic healing helped me recover from Lyme disease and being bedbound-I get it. You’ve worked so hard. Years of talk therapy, inner child work, maybe even psychedelics — and yet it feels hard to exist.

New symptoms and old symptoms feel overwhelming. You might feel disconnected from your body and others, emotionally overwhelmed and still triggered by “emotional flashbacks” such as intense anxiety or spacing out when you really hoped you wouldn’t.

These are physical pathways and real - they exist in how your nervous system communicates with your body. We simply cannot mentally override survival patterning no matter how hard we work at it. Somatic therapies can help your body rewire through physical means. Neuromuscular release, relearning reflexes, discovering movement patterns that free you up from old emotions. You have probably healed a hundred times over - maybe your body just needs catching up.

What does working with you look like?

I aim to create an experience where you can feel deeply seen, heard and welcome to allow a deeper healing process to unfold. Somatic coaching sessions are virtual but craniosacral sessions are held in a calm setting and fully clothed, using a massage table.

In a typical somatic coaching session, we’ll explore themes in your life from the perspective of the body. We might observe tension patterns, sensations and utilize parts work, eft and movement to help your body tell its story and work through the history it carries. Every session is different and may include at-home practices (ie. using specific tools and movements to shift a freeze response, or redirect sympathetic stress through helpful exercises).

Craniosacral is primarily a form of bodywork and feels at times like a gentle massage or profound energy healing. We start with establishing your preferences and needs. Attuned touch can feel really powerful - it is rare to receive, so you may feel emotions surface. I practice active consent and help you express how you feel and what you need. Otherwise, all you have to do is relax on the table and receive hands-on support. You may feel muscle tension patterning unwind. Hand positions are used to directly palpate (very gently) and feel fluid, bones, tissues and nerves while your body unwinds musculoskeletal and trauma patterns at its own pace.

How often should I come? How much does it cost?

I’ve noticed the clients who commit to regular sessions over a period of 3-5 months are also the clients who tend to feel calmer than they knew was possible, more confident and open to fulfilling relationships (& finally on the other side of acute symptoms of stress, injury and trauma).

If you haven’t felt a sense of ease, feel like an emotional pinball machine and have a hard time receiving support, I highly recommend weekly or biweekly sessions. Think of it like emotional physical therapy — or therapy for your physical nervous system. The work is cumulative and builds on itself. For trauma, illness or injury, you will see compounding results with consistency.

Standard rates are $150 / 75 minutes (55 for somatic coaching). If you buy a package of 5 sessions, you get one free - $600. Referrals allow you $25 off for every referral that books.

How do I know if this is the right work for me?

If you often feel stuck — either caught in constant overdrive or disconnected, exhausted, and burned out — your nervous system may be dysregulated.

Maybe it feels like you can never truly relax, you overgive in relationships, had a rocky childhood, or you absorb other people’s emotions to the point of exhaustion.

If this resonates, it’s a sign that your body and nervous system are craving nourishment. You may be carrying patterns of neglect and emotional volatility that has lodged into your tissues. Your body might be expressing these patterns as physical pain or chronic fatigue, anxiety, to manage feelings that are too much to feel on your own.
